Winemaking: Nick Badrice. All fruit crushed prior to chilling and division into two batches – old vs young vines. Juice is cool fermented in French oak. Some yeast inoculation, some natural ferment. Frequent lees stirring. Eights months on lees before barrel assessment and allocation to Crater or Riversdale Estate. Screw cap sealed.
Vintage: Tasmanians will long remember the endless summer of 2014. Warm, dry and sunny, the season made way for a wonderful autumn and an outstanding 2014 vintage. Moderate yields of perfectly ripened fruit made for very correct and user-friendly wines.
Wine style: The Crater style showcases the superb citrus and grapefruit characteristics of Chardonnay grown at Riversdale Estate. Oak simply provides a framework to highlight the wine's vibrancy, minerality and extraordinary length of flavour.
