Tasmania's Coal River Valley is renowned for red wines of great power and richness, and this Pinot Noir provides a superb example from the warm and very dry vintage of 2016. Created from low-yielding vines, first planted at Riversdale Estate in 1991, it displays superb black cherry and loganberry characters, set within in a light-medium bodied framework of flavour and refined texture. The finish is sustained by fine ripe tannins derived from an outstanding season in the vineyard and careful ageing of the wine in French oak barriques. This is a wine with excellent cellaring potential – up to a decade in ideal storage conditions. Enjoy now with venison and other Tasmanian game meats.
