What a busy year we've had since opening. Busy and very rewarding. Thanks to the hard work and attention to detail that went into the planning and construction of these facilities during 2015, we were able to hit the ground running when we opened our doors last Christmas Eve. Equally important, the refinements made in 2016 – including April's launch of the Beatrix Potter Peter Rabbit Garden and Birthday Centre – have not only enhanced our visitor offerings but given us industry kudos as well.
At a black-tie presentation dinner held in Hobart at the end of August, Bistro and Cellar Door Manager John Attuoni accepted two Tasmanian Hospitality Association Awards for Riversdale Estate – for Best New Tourism Initiative and Best Specialty Restaurant. After working in the hospitality industry for more than 35 years, John is justifiably proud of the way in which the new developments have been able to meet and exceed visitor expectations.
"While winning 10 trophies and 30 gold medals for Chardonnay has made Riversdale Estate the home of Tasmania's most awarded Chardonnays, guests looking beyond simply having a memorable wine experience are finding our Peter Rabbit Garden, French Bistro and High Tea Orangery have plenty of appeal of their own.
"The Bistro's bespoke European décor and specially commissioned silverware, tea services and porcelain are always set to impress, and there's nothing better than seeing guests enjoying superb food in such a magnificent setting. Of course, the young and young at heart really rise to the occasion when Peter Rabbit makes a guest appearance at our monthly Peter Rabbit High Teas. Work hardly seems like work at all when you're able to perform at your best in such a fantastic restaurant environment."
